Hi, I'm Runxi—a creative researcher passionate about design and technology.
I received my bachelor's degree (2022) in Art and Technology from the School of Innovation Design at China Academy of Art, where I was honored as a provincial and university-level outstanding graduate. I then pursued a master's degree (2025) in Art-Empowered Innovation and Technology (Intelligence and Ecology track) through the university's recommendation system. I conducted research internships at Tongji University's School of Design and Innovation in the Intelligent Big Data Visualization Lab, and later worked as a Visual Design Engineer at iFlytek.

My current goal is to become a human-computer interaction researcher. My research interests include well-being-centered interactions, future empathy design, sustainable human-computer interaction, and data narrative experiences. I explore how design can transform definitions, create compelling user experiences, and foster creative learning and sustainable development.

The Era of Plover Croc is a series of new lifeforms designed to attach to the human body in a “symbiotic” manner, set within a future environmental survival narrative context.

This work appropriates the classic genetic recombination logic of “human-beast hybrids” from the Classic of Mountains and Seas, attempting to explore the existence of possible future species. Combined with corresponding world-building, it creates a “Classic of Mountains and Seas” rooted in the present yet existing in the future— The Era of Plover Croc.

Drawing inspiration from “societal events triggered by nuclear radiation contamination across different eras,” it designs a series of mechanical lifeforms capable of adapting to diverse extreme environments and exhibiting distinct behaviors. Within this fictional narrative, these lifeforms parasitize human hosts to fill evolutionary gaps in human organ functions, granting humans survival protection in extreme conditions. In turn, the human body provides these lifeforms with a more stable habitat. Through the lifeforms' “attachment—symbiosis—escape” interaction pathway, the narrative simulates the symbiotic experience between humans and these new species, prompting critical reflection on the symbiotic relationship between humanity and nature.

Core Technologies and Processes

1. Utilization of Digital Tools: The work extracts three participatory elements from the Classic of Mountains and Seas—“social demand, functional fulfillment, and human genes.” Against a narrative backdrop of nuclear contamination, it employs existing surviving biological forms as visual generation variables. Through digital tools like Runway and StyleGAN algorithms, computers are trained in deep learning to generate images, exploring algorithmic possibilities for future species.

2. Application of Wearable Technology and Novel Materials—Soft Robotics Fabrication: Silicone materials are employed to achieve biomimetic tactile sensations of living organisms. 3D printing techniques and interactive technologies like Arduino are utilized to realize their biomimetic forms.

Potential: Can synthetic biology be integrated with design, combining biotechnology and digital systems to transform symbiotic lifeforms into genuinely designable artificial organisms with metabolic functions.
